October 29, 1:30-5:30 pm. [Registration link to come.] Notre Dame Model Project. Workshop with Professor Lindsay Cook and Handhouse Studios in which participants will learn about the structure and history of the roof of the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris by assembling a detailed 1:10 scale model of the Notre Dame choir roof framework. Realized by hand in American white oak through a series of workshops at universities, colleges, and trade schools across the United States since 2021, its design is based on the 3D laser surveys made before the 2019 fire and restoration architect Rémi Fromont’s hand-drawn survey.
Cosponsored by the Dean of the Humanities, the Department of Art History and Archaeology, the GSAPP MA Program in Historic Preservation, the Center for Science and Society, the Office of the Chaplain, the New York Medieval Society, Friends of Fondation de France, and Pennsylvania State University.
