Workshop with Professor Lindsay Cook and Handhouse Studios in which participants will learn about the structure and history of the roof of the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris by assembling a detailed 1:10 scale model of the Notre Dame choir roof framework. Realized by hand in American white oak through a series of workshops at universities, colleges, and trade schools across the United States since 2021, its design is based on the 3D laser surveys made before the 2019 fire and restoration architect Rémi Fromont’s hand-drawn survey. At the conclusion of the workshop, the model will be moved into St Paul's Chapel, where it will be on view during the concert of Gregorian Chant and Polyphony from Notre Dame performed by the Gregorian Chant Choir of Paris.
Cosponsored by Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Dean of the Humanities, the Department of Art History and Archaeology, the GSAPP MS Program in Historic Preservation, the Center for Science and Society, the Office of the Chaplain, and Pennsylvania State University.
