Presentations from Priya Joshi, Michael Vitez, and Ashley West

This year, our Beyond the Page public programming series explores the history and future of the book. Join us for an afternoon of lightning talks from three Temple faculty members about their research on the book. Kimberly Tully, librarian and curator of rare books in the Special Collections Research Center, will moderate the event.

Faculty presenters include:

  • Priya Joshi, professor of English, publishes on the history and theory of the novel. She’s currently researching how contemporary literature is remade on Web 2.0.
  • Michael Vitez, director of Narrative Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, will discuss narrative medicine and how we are using stories, reflection, and other means to restore and preserve empathy in medicine.
  • Ashley West, associate professor of Art History, is an art historian of Northern Renaissance art (ca. 1450-1550) with a focus on early print culture. Her current book manuscript explores painter-printmaker Hans Burgkmair (1473-1531), an important figure in early color printmaking and in oversize multi-block woodcuts.
