April 11, 2020

We are thrilled to announce a special Valentine's Day-inspired theme night in our 2019–2020 series: Eros and the Materiality of Desire. Join us on Tuesday, February 11 at 6:30 in 19 University Place, Room 222 where we will be thinking about how desire emerges in the interaction between image and text.

Christopher Richards (IFA) will be giving a talk entitled "Painting Dreams: Morpheus and the Virtual Beloved," and Elizabeth Kirby (French) will present "Je naturaliserois l'art: Eros in Montaigne's Self Portrait." Please join us for an illuminating discussion of love, desire, and materiality in the medieval and early modern contexts.

To suit our Valentine's Day theme, we will have champagne and chocolate, in addition to our usual assortment of snacks and refreshments. If you are able to attend, please let us know by RSVP–ing here. We will begin with champagne, chocolate, and snacks at 6:30 — the talks will begin promptly at 6:45!
