Master class (Thursday, February 7 at 5:00pm):  Alkemie will offer a master class on medieval music, instruments, and performance. If you would like to participate, please RSVP to [email protected]. Observers are also very welcome!

Concert (Friday, February 8 at 7:30pm): Alkemie will perform their concert, Cyprus 1400: Island at the Crossroads of Culture.  Alkemie voyages to medieval Cyprus, an island crossroads of French, Greek, Armenian, Italian, and Ottoman influences. Ruled by French nobility for 300 years (1192-1489), this strategic paradise in the Mediterranean captivated kings, diplomats, artists, merchants, crusaders, and pilgrims from across Europe. During this time, Cyprus grew particularly rich in the highly refined ars subtilior style, which prized rhythmic complexity and experimentation. “Cyprus 1400” explores the Franco-Cypriot codex, Turin J.II.9 - a compilation of ars subtilior motets, ballades, and rondeaux rife with rhythmic motives in groups of 7, 9, 13, and even 22. This highly refined court music is juxtaposed with rousing dance tunes from the region.

Both events take place in the South Lounge at Fordham Lincoln Center.
